MINISTER OF ENERGY’S VISION AND OPPORTUNITY FOR THE THAILAND ENERGY SECTOR

Today, Thailand imports about 80% of the oil it needs, and the country aims to reduce the use of fossil fuels and move toward the use of clean energies such as bioenergy and solar energy. One of the measures in the reduction of carbon emissions is to offer increased support to the EV industry. The government is providing support measures to maintain this industry leadership and most importantly reduce carbon emissions. The latest EV market has grown considerably (by over 275%) out of which over 10,000 vehicles are 100% EV. As for charging stations, there are 869 stations and a total of 2,572 charging heads country wide. The government has set a goal that by 2030, 30% of all cars in Thailand will be EVs. The government is also exploring measures to encourage battery manufacturers to invest in Thailand.

In addition, from the study of carbon sequestration it is estimated that 7 billion tons of carbon can be stored. This could make Thailand's energy development faster, reaching the carbon neutral target by 2050. The country’s ambition in reducing the use of fossils fuels and increasing renewable energies in pursuit of a carbon neutrality target will attract investments in the energy sector.
