BOI BOOSTS THAILAND’S EV INDUSTRY WITH AN 8-YEAR CORPORATE TAX EXEMPTION FOR BATTERY MANUFACTURERS AND 3-5 YEARS EXEMPTION FOR CHARGING STATION BUSINESSES

Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) recently announced additional support measures for investment and promotion of EVs with an 8-year corporate tax exemption for battery manufacturers and a 3-5 year exemption for charging station businesses. This is to support the installation of ‘EV chargers’ in office buildings, condominiums and shopping malls which originally focusing on petrol stations only. The BOI has already approved 26 EV manufacturing projects from 17 companies in 2022. The projects have a combined investment value of THB 80.208 billion. Thus far the BOI has approved tax benefits for the production of 838,775 EVs and issued promotion certificates for manufacturing sedans, pick-up trucks and motorcycles.

The new measures are expected to attract more investors to EV battery and charging station projects. These developments are paving the way for Thailand to position as the new EV hub of Asia.
