The electronics industry is a key strategic sector according to the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), aimed at fostering investments to position Thailand as a hub for smart electronics production in ASEAN. The focus is on developing capabilities to support high-tech ventures and future industries.
Based on the preliminary outline of the Smart Electronics Industry Development Plan Phase 1 (2023-2027), the vision is for Thailand to become a central hub for manufacturing intelligent electronic devices and systems in ASEAN, with indigenous technology by the year 2027. The plan encompasses four main objectives: Smart Home, Smart Factory, Smart Hospital & Health, and Smart Farm, aiming to elevate the entire supply chain within the smart electronics industry.
During the initial phase (2023-2027), the primary goal is to upgrade the smart electronics industry by integrating advanced technology throughout the entire supply chain. Key performance indicators include increasing the export value of smart electronics products to represent 60% of the electrical and electronics industry by 2027. Additionally, the investment in research and development for the smart electronics industry should contribute no less than 1% of the industrial GDP by 2027, fostering a comprehensive eco-system for smart electronics in Thailand.
