The EV market in Asia, especially in Southeast Asia, is thriving due to government support and new model launches. From 2024 to 2028, EV sales in Asia are forecasted to grow by 22% annually, with their share of new-car sales reaching 31% by 2025 and 39% by 2028. Thailand is leading Southeast Asia with incentives for both supply and demand and aims for 30% of cars made there to be EVs by 2030 under its 30@30 policy.
Recently, Thailand approved tax incentives for electric trucks and buses, including container trucks, liquid trucks, hazardous substance trucks, special trucks, tow trucks, and electric buses. It also approved cash grants for EV battery cell manufacturers and a plan to boost local battery cell production through the Competitiveness Enhancement Fund. The Board of Investment (BOI) has also reduced excise taxes on hybrids from 2028 to 2032, attracting $1.39 billion in investments.
